Blood cancer survival rates keep varying in some cases. However, due to the new technologies and the awareness about blood cancer, people are able to realize the signs and symptoms and go in for an early diagnosis. Most common among these types are leukemia and lymphoma.

This is again divided into two major types, Hodgkin's lymphoma and Non - Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL). The NHL is again made up of several other diseases which form its subtypes. Blood cancer life expectancy and survival rate is a kind of blood cancer statistics and has to be calculated with care.

The overall survival of cancer patients is what is taken into account. Overall survival means the chances of survival of a group of people affected with cancer. The type of cell affected also plays an important role in determining the survival rates.

This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006 and came up to be at 87%. In the white race, the survival rate for cases with Hodgkin's lymphoma during 1975 - 1977 was 74%. It increased to 80% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006. This rate was slightly higher than the other races. It came up to be at 88%.

In the African American race, the survival rate for cases with Hodgkin's lymphoma during 1975 - 1977 was 71%. It increased to 75% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999-2006 and came up to be at 82%. Even though, the survival rates for the African American race have been gradually increasing, the rates are lower than the other races.

In all races, the survival rate for cases with Non - Hodgkin's lymphoma during 1975 - 1977 was 48%. It increased to 53% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006 and came up to be at 79%.

In the white race, the survival rate for cases with Non - Hodgkin's lymphoma during 1975 - 1977 was 49%. It increased to 54% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006. This rate was slightly higher than the other races. It came up to be at 71%. From the above pattern, we see that the survival in the white race against both Hodgkin's Lymphoma and Non- Hodgkin's lymphoma was higher than that of the other races.

In the African American race, the survival rate for cases with Non - Hodgkin's lymphoma during 1975 - 1977 was 49%. The survival rates fell down slightly and became 48% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew later during the years 1999 - 2006 and was at 60%. From the above pattern, it is seen that the survival rates of the African American race against both forms of lymphoma is lesser than that of the other races.

The survival of patients affected by leukemia varies largely depending upon the type of leukemia. However, the survival of children affected by acute lymphocytic leukemia has shown great improvements.

In all races, the survival rate for cases with leukemia during 1975 - 1977 was 36%. It increased to 42% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006 and came up to be at 55%.

In the white race, the survival rate for cases with leukemia during 1975 - 1977 was 36%. It increased to 43% during the years 1984- 1986.this was slightly higher than the other races. This rate grew even higher during the years 1999 - 2006. This rate was slightly higher than the other races. It came up to be at 56%. The overall survival of people belonging to the white race has been seen to be higher than the other races.

In the African American race, the survival rate for cases with Leukemia during 1975 - 1977 was lesser than the other races and stood at 34%. The survival rates showed no improvement and stayed at 34% during the years 1984- 1986. This rate grew later during the years 1999 - 2006 and was at 47%. From the above pattern, it is seen that the survival rates of the African American race against leukemia is lesser than that of the other races.

Remember, recurrence refers to redevelopment or regeneration of cancerous infection and impacts survival rate greatly. It is best to avoid cancer causing factors and to maintain a healthy life as cancer is a highly fatal disease. Wish you a healthy life!
