Blood cancer treatment has one subjective goal: to suppress or destroy the mutated cancerous cell so that the normal cells can grow and develop.

In blood cancer, the number of mutated cells rapidly grows and suppresses and over power the normal white blood cells. Blood cancer early signs or symptoms help to confirm cancerous growth and initialize suitable blood cancer treatment

Detection of Blood Cancer

The first stage of treatment of any disease would be its detection. The doctor may conduct various tests on the blood and /or the urine to determine the presence of cancerous cells in the body. The doctor may run the CBC or complete blood count and a blood protein electrophoresis. Once cancer is detected, the treatment procedures will begin

In certain individuals, the growth of the blood cancer may be very slow. For such patients, the doctor may advise that the treatment must be delayed. Then, the doctor would recommend a close follow up and once the cancer has grown enough, the treatment will begin.

Blood Cancer Treatment

Depending upon the type of blood cancer and its growth doctors may choose different treatment. Surgery for blood cancer can be lenient or aggressive depending upon spread of tumors and main blood cancer causes behind tumor-growth. These treatments may differ from person to person.

One kind of treatment that is used is called as biological therapy or immunotherapy. In this therapy, the disease is treated by altering the immune response by either enhancing or suppressing it. In a cancer immunotherapy, the immune response is made such that the immune system begins to destroy the cancer cells and tumors. The immunotherapy may be topical; in this a cream meant for immune enhancement (imiquimod) is used. Another way to utilize the immunotherapy is by injecting the HPV vaccine.

Chemotherapy is quite frequently used for the treatment of cancer. This may sometimes be used in combination with immunotherapy. Chemotherapy treats cancer with the help of antineoplastic drugs or a combination of these drugs. Most commonly, chemotherapy targets fast growing cells. This is a property exhibited by cancerous cells. But, because other cells in the body also grow rapidly, chemotherapy tends to destroy them too. This is the reason that cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy will have hair loss or alopecia.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is when ionizing radiation is used to treat cancer. Blood cancer generally responds well to radiation therapy. An even small amount of radiation leaves good results. This therapy has the capability to control the growth of cancer cells. It works by causing harm to the DNA of the tissue which is exposed to the ionizing radiation.

Stem Cell Transplant

Blood Cancer Treatment Stem cell transplant is done if the patient's bone marrow does not produce enough blood cells. It may also be used when the patient's bone marrow is not functioning properly. The objective of this treatment is to restore your body's supply of healthy white bloods and red blood cells, thus, giving you the capability to fight the diseases. In this treatment, healthy stem cells are introduced in to your body. These stem cells may be derived from your own body or from a donor. With this infusion, the cancerous cells in the bone marrow are destroyed. This gives your bone marrow the opportunity to produce new healthy cells and resume its normal function.

Targeted Therapy

This therapy is more fruitful and poses lesser side effects than all other therapies that are currently used. So, this therapy is also the most effective. Unlike chemotherapy, it does not destroy rapidly growing cells; instead it interferes with the molecules which are particularly targeted. These are the molecules which are required for the growth and replication of cancer cells and growth of tumors.

Blood Transfusion

This is done for temporary relief. In this, blood components are replaced by new ones.

Treatment must be given at an adequate time. If the cancer progresses to a highly advanced stage, it may become unresponsive to the treatment mentioned above. In such a case, the disease may no longer be eliminated or cured. The only aim that doctors will then have is to keep the patient as comfortable as they can and to try to maximize his quality of life. They will aim at controlling pain and try to reduce discomfort.

Blood cancer treatment is available today and researchers are putting in their best efforts to come up with solutions that are even more fruitful. If you have blood cancer, go to your doctor today. Time is very essential. Even still, the struggle against blood cancer has been won by many. During this struggle they have learnt the values of life and loved ones. Remember it is never too late and hope still exists!
