Heart cancer is a type of cancer which occurs when malignant tissues attack the cells of the heart. Due to this, a tumor gets developed in the area of the heart. If heart cancer detection is done at early stages, the tumor can be removed successfully from the body. However, it is very difficult to detect this tumor at early stages as the symptoms observed are constant cough and fever which are presumed as a viral infection. Heart cancer detection generally varies according to the nature, characteristics and size of the tumor. Due to various researches conducted by different research institutes, they are many new techniques that have been implemented which tend to give an accurate analysis of the tumor. Before learning the process of heart cancer detection, it is very important to have a proper idea about the symptoms of this cancer.

Heart Cancer Detection:-

Heart cancer detection is done by performing several basic tests such as blood tests where the blood count, metabolic rate, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and arterial blood gas are examined. Other routine tests include MRI scan, CT scan, X-rays and urine tests. Main heart cancer detection procedures include:-

  • Pericardiocentisis
  • Myocardial Biopsy
  • Cardiac Catheterization
  • Electrophysiology test
  • Stress test

Explanation of heart cancer detection:-

  • Pericardiocentisis :-

    This procedure involves a use of needle to remove the fluid from the pericardial sac. In this procedure, before conducting the test,medicines to slow down the heart beat and control the blood pressure are prescribed by the doctor. During the procedure, a special needle is inserted in the location of the tumor and some fluid is taken out. This fluid is later examined by conducting various tests to discover the type of tumor and its spread throughout the body. This procedure is highly recommended as it helps to give an accurate analysis of the tumor.

  • Myocardial Biopsy :-

    Before conducting this procedure, a medicine is given which awakens you as there are many activities that have to be done during the test. After this, a local anesthesia is given prior to the test. Later a small cut is made at the location and a small part of tumor is removed. This tumor is examined under a microscope and its type and spread throughout the body is detected. X-rays may be examined by the doctor before performing this test.

  • Cardiac Catheterization :-

    Local anesthesia is given before performing this test. After this, a catheter is inserted through the arm or neck into the blood vessels. This catheter goes near the location of the tumor and various pictures of the tumor get developed. These pictures are later examined and the type and spread of the tumor is determined. X-rays of the tumor can be used as guidance before performing this test. This procedure helps to open blocked arteries and veins of heart and also helps to repair the heart valve.

  • Electrophysiology test :-

    This procedure is generally used to study the electronic activities of heart. In this test, the electric pathways of your heart are examined and heart rhythm of your heart is checked. If a disturbed rhythm is observed, several medications are prescribed to bring it to a normal rate. It also helps to determine the size and location of the tumor and its spread throughout the body.

  • Stress Test :-

    In this test, it is checked whether the heart responds to external stress or not. For this purpose, different tests are performed by the doctor to check the stress levels of the heart. This test is classified into various types such as Treadmill stress test, nuclear stress test and Stress echocardiogram.

In treadmill stress test, the patient is made to walk on the treadmill and his heartbeat rate is analyzed. In nuclear stress test, a radioactive substance is injected and various pictures of the heart area are developed whereas in stress echocardiogram a little bit of pressure is given to the heart wall and the pumping function and flow of blood is checked.

Nowadays, heart cancer detection has become easy as there are various new tests that have been implemented in the diagnosing techniques which give an accurate analysis of the tumor. If this detection is done at early stages, there are chances of survival in this cancer.
