Heart Cancer Survival Rate
Heart cancer is a type of tumour that is developed when the malignant tissues attack the cells of the heart. The main reason behind the occurrence of this tumour is the rise in the level of impure blood cells. Heart cancer survival rate generally depends upon the nature and characteristics of the tumour and the stage of the cancer.

Primary heart cancer is a cancer which originates in the heart. It attacks the tissues of the heart and then starts affecting the surrounding areas of the heart. This cancer is considered as the basic level of this tumour and so it can be treated if the symptoms are detected at early stages. Some of the basic symptoms of this cancer are, breathing problems, sound of wheezing, constant fever and headache.
Secondary heart cancer is a type of cancer which affects the other parts of the body and then attacks the heart. This cancer is a dangerous form of heart cancer and so the individual suffering from this tumour has rare chances of survival. This cancer generally gets detected in the advanced stages as its symptoms are very difficult to understand.
Statistics for heart cancer show that only 14,000 people are diagnosed with this cancer every year and the main cause for the occurrence of this tumour is either alteration of blood cells or uncontrollable cell growth due to which the level of impurity in the blood cells increases. This further affects the heart as it is unable to pump purified blood into the body.
Heart cancer survival rate is very low as this tumour completely damages the immune system and the brain which are the most important systems that control our body. Also the tumour tends to develop at such a rapid rate that it becomes extremely difficult to treat and cure heart cancer. Only one kind of treatment is highly recommended for the cure which is chemotherapy. But this therapy is set in time intervals and cannot be continued for a prolonged period of time which acts as a barrier in the treatment.
Heart cancer survival rate is nearly 8.3 % in the early stages and in the medium and advanced stages it is nearly about 3% and 0.9 % respectively. When the patient reaches the third and the fourth stage, it becomes extremely difficult as the tumour has already damaged the surrounding areas and other parts of the body. If it is detected before the tumour reaches the spinal cord and the brain then heart cancer survival rate is around11 to 14%. Once the other parts of the body including the brain and the spinal cord are affected, the chances of survival from this tumour are less and hence the survival rate may be zero.
While calculating the heart cancer survival rate, it is very important to understand that earlier the diagnosis of the tumour, more are the chances of survival. Even if this tumour is treated successfully it has a very high possibility of recurrence and so due to recurrence the chances of survival tend to diminish.
While determining heart cancer survival rates it is extremely important to conduct a proper research on heart cancer regarding the treatment options and the diagnosis as there are no effective treatment options available that can guarantee successful removal of the tumour. Heart cancer survival rate may also vary according to the age of the patient as the patients in the age group of 30 to 45 years have more capabilities to fight against the tumour whereas patients in the age group of 50 to 70 years have a weakened immune system and hence are not able to fight against the tumour that effectively.
Survival rate also differs according to the severity of the tumour. If the tumour is more severe there are less chances of survival whereas if the tumour is less severe there are more chances of survival.
