Heart cancer is a type of tumor that occurs when the tissues of heart are affected by the malignant cells. This results into development of tumor. The tumor that occurs in this cancer is life threatening and tends to spread to other parts of the body at a rapid rate. It is extremely difficult to detect the early symptoms as they are often confused as a viral infection by the doctor. Heart cancer therapy helps us to understand the type of treatments that are used to remove the tumor and the malignant cells from our body. This cancer is generally divided into two types:-

  • Primary heart cancer
  • Secondary heart cancer'

Primary heart cancer is a tumor that gets developed in the heart and then spreads to other parts of the body. If this tumor is detected at early stages, it can be successfully eradicated from our body with the help of surgery. The early symptoms of heart cancer are constant cough and fever. This cancer is the most common type of heart cancer.

Secondary heart cancer is a tumor that spreads to the other parts of the body and then attacks the heart. The malignant cells are in a severe condition when they attack the heart. So there are hardly any chances of detecting heart cancer at early stages. The life expectancy of person suffering from this tumor is 1 month. No treatment can remove the tumor from the body as the body is not in a position to respond to any kind of treatment.

Heart cancer causes are still unknown. However, this cancer mainly occurs due to alteration in the functioning of blood cells and uncontrollable cell growth. Scientists worldwide are constantly working to find out new breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment sector of the disease.

Symptoms of this tumor are listed as follows:-

  • Constant fever
  • Vomiting
  • Massive pain in chest
  • Murmuring of heart
  • Frequent heart attacks
  • Cardiomegaly
  • Tachycardia
  • Frequent Strokes
  • Body Swelling
  • Pericardaitis

Diagnosis of this cancer is done by conducting several blood tests, X-rays, MRI scans and CT scans. These are considered as the basic tests. Advanced tests done are Pericardiosenticis, Cardiac catherterization, Electrophysiology test and Myocardial biopsy.

Heart cancer therapies include:-

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Nutrition Therapy
  • Palliative Therapy

Explanation of heart cancer therapies:-

  • Chemotherapy :-

This therapy is a kind of treatment done for removing the tumor. In this therapy, several drugs are prescribed. These drugs are given in the form of tablets or injections. These drugs travel throughout the body and destroy the tumor and its spread throughout the body. Proper planning is done and certain time intervals are set before implementing this therapy as it cannot be continued for a long time. The drugs prescribed in this therapy have several side effects which include hair loss, appetite loss, rashes on skin and swelling. It also brings a lot of weakness in our body. So this therapy has to be followed by nutrition therapy.

  • Radiation therapy :-

This therapy involves the use of high transition radiations to destroy the tumor. High transition radioactive waves are passed throughout the body. These waves travel throughout the body and kill the malignant and the tumor completely. This therapy is highly recommended as there are very less chances of recurrence of the tumor after conducting this treatment. Advantages of this therapy are that it is free from side effects, cost efficient and can be done in less time. After this therapy, various medications are prescribed which prevent the chances of recurrence.

  • Nutrition Therapy :-

This therapy is generally conducted to help the body to recover from the effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In this therapy a strict diet plan is fixed by the doctor which includes the consumption of healthy food stuffs .In addition to this several nutritional supplements are prescribed which high levels of proteins, vitamins, glutamine and minerals. This helps the body to recover from the weakness that caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. After certain period of time several tests are conducted to check whether the body is recovered. If it is recovered the treatment is completely stopped.

  • Palliative therapy :-

In this therapy, training is provided to the patient to prepare himself emotionally to face this tumor. This training involves motivational lectures where the patient is trained on how to deal with the depressive situations. He is also given an idea on all the physical and mental issues he will go through while undergoing the treatment. There are chances of combining this therapy with curative therapy while treating the tumor.

Heart cancer therapy has become an interesting field of heart cancer research for scientists worldwide as there are no options available that can guarantee successful removal of the tumor form the body. However, recent breakthroughs include the implementation of virus called JX-3.This virus fights against the tumor cells and other bacteria and viruses which constantly attack the immune system.
