Lung cancer has the maximum number of cases recorded in the United States. The main cause of lung cancer is addiction of smoking. Our trachea which is the windpipe gets divided into two parts called as the bronchi. The bronchi are the main air passages to the human body. The right lung is divided into three lobes and the left lung is divided into two lobes. The left lung has got a structure that is equivalent to the middle lobe of the right lung which is called as Lingula. The left lung is smaller than the right lung because there is chest cavity and the heart on the left side.

The bronchus gets smaller in size to form bronchioles which further gets smaller to tiny sacs. These tiny sacs are called as Alveoli where the exchange of gases takes place. The carbon dioxide from the bloodstream is removed and is replaced with pure oxygen. Blood containing carbon dioxide is called deoxygenated blood or the impure blood whereas the blood containing oxygen is called as oxygenated blood or pure blood. Alveolis perform the function of replacing impure blood with pure blood which is circulated by the heart to other body parts.
