- Immunohistochemistry: It is a laboratory test, a small part of samples collected from lymphatic biopsy are treated with manmade antibodies. These antibodies cause changes in color when observed under a microscope. Immunohistochemistry is helpful in distinguishing non Hodgkin lymphoma from other disorders.
- Flow cytometry: This laboratory test traces the presence of foreign cells amidst lymphocytes (white blood cells). It helps to determine the extent of swelling in nodes of human lymphatic system. It also guides cancer specialists to trace the type of non Hodgkin tumor and choose a suitable cure for it.
Detection procedures of Hodgkin Lymphoma:
The first sign of Hodgkin lymphatic cancer is swelling in the upper chest. Arms and necks also display swelling followed by slight pain. - Biopsy: This procedure is a sure way to confirm the presence of Hodgkin lymphoma cancer detection. A small part of lymph nodes are removed through a surgical needle. Pathologists check these parts with a microscope to locate any possible presence of lymphoma cells. Persons suffering from Hodgkin lymphoma have the presence of Reed Sternberg cells in the lymphatic nodes. Biopsy tests successfully confirm the presence of these cells.
- CT scan: This kind of scan is done with the help of X-ray machines working in coordination with a computerized interface. Pictures of abdomen, pelvis and chest are taken with the help of CT scans.
- MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging): This medical test involves using a powerful magnetic interface connected to a computer. It is used to take resonance images of brain, bones and other tissues. Doctors view these photos on a computer monitor and print them on a film.
- PET scan: In this scan radioactive sugar is transferred to the lymphatic system of the patient's body. This is done by using medication injections, computerized images of sugar transfer help doctors to see their effects on the lymphatic nodes. Color changes due to effect of radioactive sugar on lymphatic cells indicate the presence of Hodgkin lymphatic cancer.
