Metastatic Cancer Causes
Any type of cancer results due to the carcinogenesis (malignant alteration) of normal cells. Cancer cells typically have the characteristic feature to proliferate uncontrollably. This feature allows them to locate themselves into other body tissues and lymph nodes to form metastasis. If the cancer is not diagnosed when the tumor starts to form at the original location, it keeps on spreading into different nearby tissues and body organs. Extent of tumor spread decides the stage of the cancer. Late diagnosis of metastic cancer is one of the major this cancer causes.
When the cancer spreads beyond the original location or at distant organs, the patient is considered to be at the advanced metastatic cancer stages. Getting completely cured from this stage is just next to impossible. Cancerous tumors metastasize through blood circulation or lymphatics. This may occur due to the unintended transplantation from one location to another by local extension and during surgery of metastatic cancer.
What is cancer metastasis?
Metastasis can be referred as the stage in which the cancerous tumors get spread into other body organs through the lymphatic system or bloodstream. Cancer cells resembles the cells of the organisms from which they have been generated, they possess alike RNA and DNA (not identical). As they are similar in appearance, they often left undetected by the immune system, especially when it is undermined. In other words, we can say that the immune system finds it difficult to distinguish the cancer cells from the normal cells.
Metastasized cells normally have a great ability to multiply fast and their number of divisions is unlimited by telomeres on DNA. (Note: Telomere is a device which is used to bind the number of divisions to 40-60). Rapid division of cancer cells leads to the development of large masses or lumps of tissues, this result into the distraction of bodily functions due to the damage in the vital structures as well as organs.
How the normal cells become malignant?
Metastasis cancer may occur at any age, but the risk of this disease tends to elevate with the age, since the DNA gets damaged more prominently in the older ages. Metastatic cancer causes due to the uncontrollable growth of cells and damage to DNA gives rise to unregulated growth of cells. Damage to the DNA causes alteration in the genes that encodes for the protein cells division. Several mutations events combine to convert a normal cell into a malignant one.
These mutations tend to take place due to chemicals and physical agents which are termed as carcinogens. These alterations may be exposure to radioactive materials or involvement of certain viruses that induce their DNA into the genome of human being. Mutations take place impulsively, and may be inherited from one generation to another as a consequence of mutations in the germ lines.
Causes of metastasized cancer:
Most of the cancers are erratic. Their causes and type is unclear and unknown. There is no particular reason why a person develops cancer while another does not. Cancer starts to develop over a period when the normal cells start altering. Such cells multiply speedily and convert into malignant cells. This type of mutation may takes place in the genes due to the complicate merging of the features associated with the heredity, lifestyle and environment.
Although, the metastasis cancer causes are unclear, still there some risk factors that may increase the possibility of getting cancer. Each cancer has different risk factors. Almost 80 percent of cancers may develop due to the poor nutrition, sun exposure, smoking cigarette and use of alcohol. Use of certain diets, tobacco chewing, exposure to UV (ultra violet) radiations, carcinogens (disease causing agents present in the environment), lesser extent and some impending catalysts. It is significant to note that these factors enhances the possibility of a person to get the disease and does not always cause the disease.
Most common metastatic cancer causes include:
Around twenty percent of cancers are inherited through the genes, it means they are hereditary. However, it doesn't mean that if someone has cancer causing genes in their body, they are readily going to develop cancer. This factor just enhances one's risk of getting it.
Causes of hereditary cancer involves
In all, it can be said that metastatic cancer causes are unclear, but there are some risk factors that may often increases one's possibility of getting this disease.
